Nonprofits in Franklin are working to feed families hurt by a government shutdown that cut SNAP funds and raised grocery prices.
One Generation Away is offering extra food pantries on Tuesdays and Thursdays through November—each box contains shelf-stable food and fresh produce—and other local groups are hosting food events on set days.
Habitat for Humanity Williamson-Maury will dedicate two new homes for single mothers and their children this November to provide stable, affordable housing.
The project is supported by local donors and sponsors with funding ($23,250 per home) that helps keep mortgages affordable.
On November 3, Voices for a Safer Tennessee hosted a community talk at Franklin First United Methodist Church to discuss the impact of firearms on public health+ experts including City of Franklin Mayor Ken Moore, Sen. Bill Frist, Dr. Paige Smith, and retired BG Eden Murrie shared local statistics and personal accounts on safety. They also discussed proposed laws for temporary firearm removal, secure storage, and background checks to lower gun injuries.

United Communications invites Middle Tennessee residents to take its Speed Test Challenge to check if their internet supports work, online classes, and streaming.
The test will show download and upload speeds along with latency, and fiber internet offers reliable performance — a strong option if current speeds are slow.

Franklin's multi GRAMMY award-winning singer-songwriter Steven Curtis Chapman will headline the inaugural 'A Franklin Christmas' benefit concert at Liberty Hall in The Factory at Franklin on Dec.
15 — doors open at 6:15 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. Atmos Energy sponsors the event — proceeds support local nonprofits including youth mentorship, parks, affordable housing and student resources.
Local author Karen Kingsbury held a movie premiere of The Christmas Ring at Franklin Theatre today — the holiday film starring Jana Kramer and Ben Hollingsworth tells the story of a military widow searching for a lost family heirloom and is now in theaters.

Franklin High School is accepting applications for its International Baccalaureate Program for the 2026-27 school year—current sophomores can join the Diploma Program and eighth and ninth graders may apply for the Pre-IB Program.
Williamson County families can learn more at meetings on November 11 at 6 p.m., November 18 at 6 p.m., December 9 at 6 p.m. on Zoom, and January 13 at 6 p.m.
Williamson County Schools will open a new Innovation Center in August 2026 to offer students aviation career training—programs include dual enrollment courses and in-school flight training with Hawkins Flight Academy that meet state standards.
On October 29, WCS students shined at the inaugural Where Business Meets Education luncheon at The Factory in Franklin, where Franklin High Transition II students served coffee and student entrepreneurs pitched business ideas.
Local officials and mentors spoke while Atmos Energy provided funding to help launch startups — the event gave students a real-life chance to build valuable skills.
WCS middle and high school theaters will stage fall productions next week at several local schools including Heritage Middle, Thompson’s Station Middle, Centennial High in Franklin, Ravenwood High in Brentwood, and Summit High in Spring Hill (featuring plays like The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza and North Platte Canteen: A Musical Miracle). Ticket prices range from $10 to $14 and performance dates span November 13 to November 16.
WCS high schools earned awards at the Tennessee Theatre Association Festival held in Smyrna on October 24-25.
Nolensville High earned a superior ranking for its play 'A Breach in the Darkness', Page High placed third with 'Hold, Please' and will represent Tennessee at the Southeastern Theatre Conference in March, and Ravenwood High had two students named to the All Star Cast for 'The Great Gatsby'.
