About this event
For the first time, a private collection of rare chocolate-related artifacts goes on public view. Curated by chocolate historian Sophia Rea, founder of Projet Chocolat, the collection includes pieces found elsewhere only in the Smithsonian, the Hunt Museum, and the Natural History Museum in London.
Presented with IndigeNash at Radar 615 Gallery in Wedgewood Houston, it is the only indigenous-led chocolate museum north of Mexico. Through archival objects, tastings, talks, and an interactive scent experience, it tells cacao’s story from the people who first honored it.
Open to the public and for sponsored private events, beginning November 18th.
About the Instructor
Sophia Rea is a chocolate historian and former chef for entertainers, with more than 35 years in the hospitality industry. She has been featured in Chocolate Connoisseur Magazine and The Wall Street Journal , as well as on WSMV. She leads chocolate tastings and talks nationwide, teaches Chocolate Art History for Atlas Obscura, and guest lectures at museums and universities. She is the founder of the Women in Chocolate Retreat in Santa Fe and a planning committee member for IndigeNash, Nashville’s Indigenous arts festival.
In this presentation, chocolate historian Sophia Rea takes you on a delicious journey through chocolate’s past, present, and future. Your tasting includes an Aztec drinking chocolate from the oldest cacao farm in Mexico, dating back to 1823, and a Mexican drinking chocolate that is sure to delight! For visual context, Rea also showcases chocolate artifacts from her private collection.
You can visit her online shop, Projet Chocolat , where you will find lovingly hand-selected chocolate, educational tools, courses, vintage treasures, and accessories for your next event. She also hosts the Nashville Chocolate Salon! Sophia eats chocolate every day.
