BUSINESS NEWS

  • Franklin will welcome its first Whataburger location on Tuesday, Mar. 24 at 3075 Mallory Lane. The new restaurant will host festivities including a ribbon-cutting and free giveaways for early customers as part of a regional expansion.  Williamson County Source
  • Harpeth True Value, a longstanding hardware store in Franklin, will close on April 1 as rising costs and shifting retail trends force a winding down of operations (clearance sales will begin soon) while the owner plans to lease the property to a new tenant.  Williamson Herald

CULTURE NEWS

  • The City of Franklin will host the annual Kids Arts Festival of Tennessee on Saturday, Mar. 21 at Bicentennial Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. + grades K-12 can submit original artwork for the juried exhibit by Monday, Mar. 9.  Williamson County Source

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fairview Middle now hosts Williamson County’s first middle school girls flag football team after more than 80 students joined tryouts for a pilot program led by coach Chris Hughes — who also directs Fairview High’s team. Both junior varsity and varsity squads opened with wins against Burns Middle.  Williamson County Source
  • Atmos Energy donated $20,000 to Hunters Bend Elementary library to expand its book collection and update STEM resources plus awarded $2,009 to fifth-grade teacher Cory Batten’s classroom to support innovative learning for Read Across America Week.  Williamson County Source
  • Page High will celebrate its 50th anniversary on April 30 at Harpeth Hotel in Franklin where the PTO event will begin at 6:30 p.m. and feature heavy hors d'oeuvres, entertainment and a silent auction to fund a new outdoor amphitheater for community events.  Williamson County Source
  • WCS Superintendent Jason Golden honored the Classified Employees of the Year on February 26 by naming Kim Noblett from Winstead Elementary, Amy Ballone from Woodland Middle, and Robin O’Mara from Nolensville High (each acknowledged for their vital support roles).  Williamson County Source
  • Not Your Average Bear Foundation has opened the Randy King Memorial Scholarship applications for 10 college-bound Williamson County seniors whose families have been affected by cancer. Students must submit an essay and recommendation by March 30 (winners will be announced May 1) to win $5,000 each.  Williamson County Source
  • Williamson County fine arts students earned spots on the Mid-State and All-State ensembles in band, orchestra, choir & theater, and they will participate in All-State Weekend at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville from April 9 to 12.  Williamson County Source

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Bill Lee and Deputy Gov. McWhorter announced today that more than $200 million in BEAD funding will support 128 broadband projects across 74 counties, bringing high-speed internet to over 43,000 unserved and underserved locations, including parts of Franklin. The projects are set to be completed by December 2028.  Williamson County Source

  • Brooklyn-based Italian restaurant Pelato opened its new location at 1914 Galleria Boulevard in CoolSprings Galleria, Franklin. The eatery now accepts dinner reservations with a two-hour dining limit & plans for lunch hours are underway.  Williamson County Source
