- ➤ Freedom Middle School will honor MLB veteran Tony Kemp with a bronze plaque unveiling at its athletic complex on Tuesday, Apr. 21 at 3:00 p.m. The ceremony will celebrate his achievements in academics and sports as a Franklin native. Williamson County Source
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ City eWaste will collect handheld electronics for free recycling during Earth Week (April 20 to 24) at drop-off points such as local shops, yoga studios, and business lobbies. Residents should reset devices before drop-off and bring larger items to City eWaste headquarters at 1209 Lakeview Dr. Williamson County Source
- ➤ As Earth Month begins, AT&T invites residents to drop off old phones, tablets, and cords at local AT&T retail locations—including the one in Franklin—in a program that will donate a laptop for every 10 pounds of e-waste collected. Williamson County Source
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Deputy Tim McCartney was named School Resource Officer of the Year by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office in recognition of his mentoring at Ravenwood High School — his continuous efforts build trust between law enforcement and the school community. Williamson County Source
- ➤ The Tennessee Wars Commission awarded $2.6 million in Civil War Sites Preservation Fund grants to six recipients to save about 22 acres of battlefield lands statewide, including $1.25 million to Franklin’s Charge Inc. for the Franklin Battlefield, while applications for next year’s grants open Aug. 10 + Oct. 31. - ➤ After severe storms hit our area on Thursday evening, Nashville Electric Service crews restored power to over 41,000 customers—fewer than 4,600 remain without power as crews work 16-hour shifts today to restore all service by midnight. Williamson County Source
