COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Franklin Police honored all 13 school crossing guards on Wednesday morning at police headquarters for keeping students safe, with Lisa Harris and Annie Esmond receiving special plaques for 30 and 15 years of service, respectively.  Williamson County Source

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jason Golden and Executive Director of Communications Cory Mason reviewed school board actions from the May 19 meeting in the Superintendent’s Report. The report covers end-of-year recaps, graduation ceremonies, summer school plans, and budget updates & summer camps for district programs.  Williamson County Source
  • Independence High junior JJ used skills from the ACE Mentorship Program to design an adjustable stirrup with a pressure-release joint that helps prevent riders from falling. His innovative design earned him Southeast Regional Winner honors at the National High School Design Competition hosted by Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum.  Williamson County Source
  • More than a dozen local high school students earned a perfect 36 composite score on the ACT in March and April, with standout results from Brentwood, Centennial, Franklin, Independence and Nolensville high schools (among others).  Williamson County Source

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kroger is recalling 5-ounce pouches of Homestyle Cheese Garlic Croutons after milk powder in the seasoning mix may pose a Salmonella risk; the products were distributed to local and other stores from March 7 to April 7 (no illnesses have been reported).  Williamson County Source
  • Health inspectors recorded the county's lowest food scores from May 13 to 20 at establishments including Isshin Japanese and Perry’s Steakhouse (inspection reports are posted at local health offices); residents are urged to call 800-293-8228 for any food safety concerns.  Williamson County Source
  • Williamson County environmental specialists awarded perfect 100 health scores to over 15 establishments — pools, restaurants, and tattoo studios — during routine inspections from May 13 to May 20. Officials remind residents that inspection reports must be posted in visible areas for public review.  Williamson County Source

  • Rising third through eighth graders can join the Youth Basketball Camp at Centennial High this summer. The camp runs June 1-3 from 9 a.m. until noon and costs $100 per camper at Centennial High (5050 Mallory Lane).  Williamson County Source
