- ➤ The Store is hosting its Second Annual School Store to collect new backpacks and stainless-steel water bottles in July for families using its services—over 500 children are expected to be served. Donations may be dropped off at The Store and several local sites between July 7 and July 25—select Kroger Bellevue, Brentwood and Green Hills stores will accept items on July 19 and July 20. - ➤ Franklin resident McKenzie McClure, also known as Kalvin McClure, was sentenced on July 9 to 30 months in federal prison for cyberstalking 14 victims—she will also face a 3-year supervised release with restrictions on contacting school community members. Williamson County Source
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Crews are working on the next phase of water and sanitary sewer improvements at the 5 Points intersection for about three weeks, with closures affecting part of the intersection, Lewisburg Avenue, and 5th Avenue South between S. Margin and 5 Points. Flaggers are directing drivers at key intersections—drivers are urged to use detours or alternate routes if they do not need to travel downtown. Williamson County Source
- ➤ At a July 8 meeting, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen postponed the second vote on the proposed Harlin development until August after local residents expressed worries about Hillview Lane and traffic, noting the project would include 242 housing units, 32,000 square feet of commercial space, and an 80-key hotel—developers requested the delay to adjust the plan—. The board also approved selling the historic Creekside House to Franklin Preservation Partners for up to $2,018,000—keeping a local landmark intact—and marked the ADA 35th Anniversary while accepting Officer Ryan Schuman’s retirement as Officer Marty Carson prepares to take over as Public Affairs Officer on Aug. 4.
