Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 19th of August.
Good morning, Franklin.
Franklin Transit has announced a free pilot shuttle that will run every 15 minutes from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. starting September 15 — the route connects downtown with The Factory via stops at the Transit Authority Center and Public Square.
Today at 4 p.m. the city of Franklin will host the grand reopening of the renovated Main Barn at Harlinsdale Farm, which now has a new roof, paved road and updated facilities.
City staff worked with historic preservation groups to maintain the barn’s historic character while adding modern updates that support future public events.
The 12th annual Williamson County Battle of the Badges Blood Drive will honor the memory of Deputy Robert Andrew Ryan on Wednesday, Aug.
20 at the John P. Holt Brentwood Library — his off-duty vehicle accident death earlier this summer led officials to invite blood donations from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. — sponsors will donate $5 per unit to the Gary Sinise Foundation in his name.
On Friday, emergency crews responded when a car flipped off I-840 westbound near the Pinewood Road onramp and landed on the ground below — two patients were airlifted by Vanderbilt LifeFlight helicopters as responders closed lanes and contained a minor oil leak.
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office & Nolensville Police Department are working to ease traffic near Sunset Elementary during busy school drop-off and pick-up times.
Until a new crossing guard is hired, officers will patrol the area to keep students and drivers safe.
Franklin earned statewide recognition when the city received the Excellence in Fire Services Award on August 5 in Chattanooga for a mental health program that supports firefighter wellness.
The program partners with other city departments and offers mental health services, peer support and wellness check-ins (key to addressing trauma) that set a new standard for first responder care.
Williamson Health is now accepting applications for its Patient and Family Advisory Council—open to up to 10 community members and 10 staff serving three-year terms to share feedback on care improvements.
Members join quarterly meetings to help shape patient services and guide future changes within the healthcare system.
