COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Mercy Franklin Classic—a 26-year tradition—will take place on Labor Day at 6:30 a.m. at Franklin Square to support Mercy Community Healthcare’s financial aid program, and church partners including St. Philip Catholic Church, Christ Community Church and St. Andrews will provide supplies, donations and volunteers. BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Sports bar franchise Dog Haus Biergarten will open a 2,500-square-foot location at Canteen on Carothers in Franklin and will feature a 700-square-foot indoor—outdoor patio with fire pits, games and TVs while offering a menu of Nashville hot chicken sandwiches, wings, burgers and hot dogs alongside beers and cocktails. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Franklin police arrested Shaquille Mason (31) from Brentwood after he was suspected of domestic assault at a home in Franklin on the morning of August 27; he faces charges of Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Burglary, Harassment and Driving on a Suspended License with a bond set at $150,000. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ WCS students set a new district record for AP Capstone Diplomas this school year by having 167 students earn the award—up from 114 last year. Eight high schools in the district also saw 36 students earn AP Seminar and Research Certificates. Williamson County Source
- ➤ Sunset Middle was named the 2024-25 Best Buddies International Outstanding Middle School Chapter of the Year—selected from 685 schools—and will celebrate its global honor with a special event on Friday, August 29 at 5:30 p.m. Williamson County Source
- ➤ Beginning this year, Williamson County Schools will recalculate the GPAs of high school students who transfer using the district’s weighted scale—students will receive updated transcripts by the end of September and may request an appeal if they disagree. Williamson County Source
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ At a work session on August 26, 2025, the Franklin Board of Mayor and Aldermen discussed plans for a new plaza and statue to honor the 75th anniversary of the Franklin Rodeo in Jim Warren Park—construction will begin this fall and the site is scheduled to open in spring next year. The board also reviewed details for a statue of Mamie the Mule in Carter Hill Park, which artist Janel Maher will complete to coincide with the opening of the Herbert Harper Visitor Center in mid-2026. - ➤ Williamson County obtained perfect 100 health scores from inspections conducted from (August 20 to 27) that confirmed local food service venues and school cafeterias met safety standards. The Health Department inspected many establishments and posted results for public view (Benchmark Sports Pub and Bethesda Elementary were among those inspected). Williamson County Source
- ➤ The Department of Health released inspection scores for Williamson County from August 20 to August 27, 2025 — detailing reviews for food service establishments, pools, and school facilities. Establishments must post inspection reports for public review and the public is advised to call the hotline if concerns are noted. Williamson County Source
- ➤ Williamson Health received two awards from the American Heart Association for following strict guidelines in heart care—one for managing NSTEMI cases in patients with type 2 diabetes and another for reducing door-to-door EKG times in STEMI cases; the honors confirm its ongoing commitment to evidence-based treatment.
