BUSINESS NEWS

  • Franklin will soon have a new Whataburger location at 3075 Mallory Lane at Cool Springs—built on the site of a demolished Fifth Third Bank building. The brand, which opened its first Williamson County location in Brentwood in May, is expected to share more details—such as its opening date and promotions—in the near future.  Williamson County Source

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Williamson County Schools honored six bus drivers on September 10—Gary Yates, Veda Caddell, Christine Edwards, JC Collins, Pam Graves and Melanie Emler—for going above and beyond, with each driver receiving a free breakfast, gift card and certificate from Sonic Drive-In.  Williamson County Source
  • Sixty WCS high school students were named National Merit Semifinalists on September 10 from a field of 1.3 million entries — they will be notified in February if they advance to finalist status.  Williamson County Source

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Three Williamson County groups won TN Recycling Awards as the Williamson County Solid Waste Department earned Government Recycler of the Year for its new mattress recycling program, the Green Team was named Non-Profit Recycler for its efforts in upcycling and composting, and India Savage received the TN Top Leader award for her work at the GM plant—recognizing their commitment to waste reduction.  Williamson Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Sept. 9, the Franklin Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved rezoning and development plans for two projects along McEwen Road. The Aureum plan passed unanimously while Ovation passed 6-1, and the proposals include 2,464 dwelling units, 750 hotel rooms and 1.75 million square feet of space with green features — like a pond and mountain bike trails — to support enhanced transit in the area.  Williamson Herald
  • Today, the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security marked the 24th anniversary of Sept. 11 by sharing a message from Commissioner Jeff Long—honoring nearly 3,000 lives lost and the bravery of first responders. Long urged Tennesseans to help young people learn about the day’s sacrifice and stay ready to serve their neighbors.  Williamson County Source

SPORTS NEWS

  • Fifth through eighth graders are invited to attend the final three Centennial High Youth Basketball Mini Camps hosted by the CHS boys basketball team at 5050 Mallory Lane in Franklin. Sessions will run from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on September 13, 20, and 27 and cost $10 each — families may register online.  Williamson County Source
