CULTURE NEWS

  • The Art Crawl returns on Friday, Oct. 3 from 6 to 9 p.m. along Main Street and at The Factory—despite an Arts Council leader claiming the event is declining after an alcohol ban hurt visitor traffic—and a free trolley will transport guests downtown.  Williamson Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • WCS high school named 129 students National Merit Commended Students after they achieved top PSAT scores among roughly 34,000 test-takers. The award may lead to further scholarship options — including corporate and business awards — for these students.  Williamson County Source
  • District students learned new skills at the Innovation Cafe — run by the WCS Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center program where Transition 2 students serve beverages to staff, students, and mentors. The cafe is open daily to provide hands-on learning for all.  Williamson County Source
  • Students and families can now complete the 2026-27 FAFSA to apply for federal aid and the Tennessee Promise—College for TN provides a guide and video walkthroughs for help. Applicants must finish the form by April 1 to remain eligible for the program.  Williamson County Source

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • OneGenAway said it will soon provide free food boxes — no questions asked — to any federal worker in Middle Tennessee who may lose pay from a government shutdown. It will release more details on distribution locations and schedules in the coming days.  Williamson Herald
  • Starting Monday, October 6, South Margin Street will close permanently between Columbia Avenue and Cummins Street—this change is part of the downtown redevelopment project. City officials say drivers will need to use alternate routes and follow posted detours as plans extend 9th Avenue to complete the connection.  Williamson County Source
  • The Franklin Police Department will hold a pedestrian safety outreach tomorrow at Hunter’s Bend Elementary—where officers will explain proper crosswalk use—and in downtown Franklin to distribute safety materials and answer questions about jaywalking. The initiative comes after a rise in pedestrian fatalities and is in cooperation with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office and Williamson County Sheriff's Office.  Williamson County Source
  • Four candidates for Franklin Board of Mayor and Aldermen presented plans on handling city growth, water management, and affordable housing during a forum on Sept. 30 at the Williamson County Administrative Complex. They varied on proposals for a building moratorium and new transparency tools—each outlining different methods to boost government efficiency ahead of early voting on Oct. 8 and the election on Oct. 28.  Williamson Herald

HEALTH NEWS

  • Tennessee health inspectors reported that several food establishments in Williamson County received their lowest health scores—collected from inspections between September 24 and October 1. Scores at restaurants like Connors Steak and Seafood have now been posted publicly as required.  Williamson County Source
  • Williamson County food service spots earned perfect health scores of 100 during inspections from September 24 to October 1—officials said all locations posted the latest reports for public view.  Williamson County Source

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Many local restaurateurs in Williamson County reported changes last week as Wendy’s launched new Chicken Tenders, Shake Shack offered BOGO deals for October, and Chipotle introduced a limited-time Red Chimichurri sauce—while Connors Steak and Seafood faced a failing health inspection. In Franklin, Ugly Bagel opened a second location at Cool Springs to serve hand-rolled bagels.  Williamson County Source

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Woodland Middle girls tennis team capped an undefeated season by winning the TMSAA State Championship on September 27th—head coach Len Brosky noted the team's marked improvement, while Fairview Middle boys tennis team finished as state runners-up after tough competition.
