Brentwood girls win a seventh straight state cross country title, tying the record

Brentwood's girls did it again. The Bruins won their seventh straight TSSAA Class AAA title Thursday at Shelby Farms in Memphis, tying Knoxville Webb for the most consecutive cross country state championships ever. Freshman Scotlyn Szabo finished third in 18:13.38, and the Williamson Herald reports every scoring Bruin placed in the top 20.

The boys had a strong day, too. Independence battled to a close runner-up finish a season after winning its first state title, and senior Dallen Milford placed fourth in 15:44.74. Maryville's Tommy Babbit won the individual crown in 15:14.33. Local teams from Brentwood, Summit, Independence, Ravenwood, Nolensville and Franklin raced in Class AAA, and photos from the day are online.

  • DII-AA boys: Andrew Beroset won in a course-record 14:45.57
  • DII-AA girls: Father Ryan won the team title
  • DII-A boys: Davidson Academy's Elijah Wharton took first
  • DII-A girls: Grace Christian's Anna-Marie Porter placed fourth in 19:11.07

That ties Knoxville Webb for the most consecutive cross country state championships ever.
